The world stands on three things: study, worship, and acts of loving kindness. -Pirkei Avot
Social action projects and programs, including daily Bagel and Bread Rescue to benefit local soup kitchens, food drives to benefit the local food pantry, an annual community day of service and collection of items for the local women's shelter, promote mitzvah among our members. Congregants also come together to beautify the Temple on Mitzvah Day. Our congregation is actively involved with the larger Jewish community.
Some of the activities the Social Action Committee sponsors are Sunday Morning at Temple (SMAT), High Holy Day and Passover Food Drives, Sit Down Onegs and the Back-to-School Clothing Drive for Transitional Housing. Our Social Action Committee has also been involved in raising awareness of the crisis in Darfur and sponsored a "Dolls for Darfur" pin-making activity. Their latest project assisted by Sisterhood was collecting donations to provide solar cookers for women in Darfur.
