Temple Israel offers a comprehensive sequence of educational programs for our youth. The Temple offers a Hebrew program, in addition to contributing to a community-wide Sunday school. A variety of educational activities, including the confirmation program, are available for teenagers.
Starting with Tot Shabbat for the very young and a Family Service, both offered once a month, we try to make prayer meaningful and accessible from an early age. (A monthly parent-tot Sunday School for the under-3 set with parents and grandparents has been offered in the past; in order to reconvene, a parent volunteer to co-ordinate the meetings is required.)
Children of the Temple participate in the Lafayette Jewish Community Religious School (LJCRS). The mission of LJCRS is to teach about Judaism and Jewish values, as well as to instill a strong Jewish identity in our youth. The school educates children in a developmentally-appropriate and non-judgmental way. The school is member-run with many opportunities for parent participation. LJCRS serves children aged three through ninth grade. It meets a maximum of thirty Sunday mornings per year at Temple Israel. Temple Israel pays LJCRS tuition for students from its member families; parents are responsible for registration, book and materials fees.
